What does a yoga therapy session involve?

At your first consultation we will talk through what you would like yoga to help you with, and I will carry out a short check of your body and alignment to give me a whole picture of what’s best for you. I will then design your practice, and take you through it so you are confident with it. I make a hand out of your practice for you to follow at home til your next session.

What should I wear?

There’s no need to wear any particular clothing, just wear something comfortable for you which allows you to move freely.

How many sessions will I need?

Usually it takes 6 sessions to come out of a problem. For Yoga Therapy, I normally only accept clients who commit to at least three sessions over the course of three months. You will almost certainly feel some improvement after your first practice, but three months will allow you to feel and understand the notable and cumulative difference that your yoga practice can make your life.

As yoga therapy is focused on you, the frequency of sessions we have will depend on you. If you have an acute condition, for example, a herniated disc, that’s inhibiting your movement, we may need the first few sessions to be a week or less apart. If it’s a more chronic condition, it will be more like 3-4 weeks between the first few sessions.

Some people like to keep on their yoga path at this point either continuing with personal tailored practices from me, or moving to more general classes or practices in other directions.

I’m worried I’m too unfit or inflexible for yoga therapy to help me?

Yoga is for everyone. Your yoga therapy practice will be tailored to you, your needs, your capabilities and your body. I have worked successfully with a wide range of people with different ages, abilities, needs and confidence levels including people at the end of the lives to help them ease on with peace.

How long does a session last and what’s the cost?

Each session is 90 minutes and costs £90 (this includes everything detailed above and support with any questions or clarifications required after the session). As above, I will normally only accept new clients who commit to three sessions over the course of three months.

Where will the session take place?

We can have a session in person at one of the two studios I co-run:

Love Yoga Ltd, Aberdeen
Kalyach Yoga & Wellness in Ellon

I also have yoga therapy sessions with students who are located further away via zoom.
